Return to Paradise with a Pool Renovation

At some point in every pool's life, it will need to be reinvented. From a vinyl liner replacement to completely altering the shape and appearance of your pool, all of this is possible when you choose a Fort Smith pool renovation expert like those at Burton Pools & Spas.

1. Update Your Vinyl Liner

Your vinyl liner will need to be replaced every 7 to 15 years depending on a variety of factors. But you may also want to change it because it is faded or has a dated pattern that makes your pool look tired and old.

2Change the Shape of Your Pool

No longer a fan of that water-filled rectangle sitting in your backyard? You can completely revolutionize the shape and appearance of your pool with a pool renovation by:
  • Extending the length of your pool
  • Adding curves
  • Incorporating new ledges and entries (like a tanning ledge and a beach entry)

3. Modernize Your Pool Deck

A pool deck that more closely resembles a city sidewalk than a resort in paradise will take away from the entire appeal of your outdoor living area. Say “goodbye” to broom finished concrete and instead choose from:
  • Pavered designs
  • Stamped concrete
  • Natural stone decking (like flagstone)

4Bring Your Equipment to the 21st Century

If you haven't replaced your pump and filter over the past 20 years or so, they may be undersized or inefficient. Consider upgrading your pool equipment to a variable speed pool pump, a cartridge pool filter and the valves to 3-way valves. Choosing a new sanitizer system (such as a salt chlorine generator) will also help protect your pool and those who enjoy swimming in it.

5. Add Water Features

Adding one or more water features to a poolscape is one of the most popular pool renovation ideas, and for a good reason. The tranquil sound of falling water trickling from a deck jet or cascading over boulders will boost the ambiance level around the pool and your entire outdoor living area.
Burton Pools & Spas offers free onsite outdoor living and pool renovation consultations to anyone interested in sprucing up their existing poolscape or building a brand new backyard. Check out our gallery for inspiration and give us a call today at (800) 667-9180.

Water Features That Perfectly Complement a Modern Geometric Pool

Geometric pools have quickly climbed the ranks in pool popularity and are now among one of the most commonly found pool designs in Fort Smith backyards today. Being nearly as flexible as a freeform pool but offering flattering and well defined lines and edges, some water features tend to complement geometric poolscapes more than others. Below are just a handful of the water features you may want to consider for your modern pool:

Feature #1: Scuppers

Scuppers are a staple water feature for almost every geometric pool design. The appearance of this water feature can vary from incredibly simplistic to ornate and complicated. Many pool owners will choose to incorporate scuppers:
  • Within planter boxes
  • Along a raised spa (the spa is usually attached)
  • Along walls which border the pool
This water feature is typically incorporated in pairs or sets of three, though pool owners can choose to have as many as necessary for the desired audible and visual effect.

Feature #2: In-Pool Fountains

This water feature may have taken a backseat in recent years to other new cutting edge options, but it is making strong comeback as geometric pools increase in desirability. The in-pool fountain brings an element of sophistication and opulence while still being an incredibly fun feature for kids and adults alike.

Feature #3: Sheer Descent Waterfalls

Arguably the most complimentary water feature to the geometric pool given its matching crisp lines is the sheer descent waterfall. Unlike the typical bubbling rock waterfall which often accompanies freeform pools, the sheer descent provides a smooth cascade of water that continuously pours into the pool. Not only is it a visual delight, but many include this waterfall in their pool designs because of its therapeutic qualities.

Enjoying Your Outdoor Living Area in the Fall

Thinking of ways to get the most of your backyard this fall?  Whether you are considering revamping your existing outdoor living area or are planning to build it from scratch, these tips below will help you create the perfect fall-friendly outdoor living space.

Invest in your Furniture

Your outdoor furniture is going to take a beating.  Sun, snow, rain and wind can quickly make inferior quality outdoor furniture look weathered and worn.

When exploring your outdoor furniture options, look for basic sets which are made from heavy and durable materials.  You can dress up this furniture with less expensive elements to make it look more engaging, such cozy blankets and soft, supple pillows.

Create a Cover

Covering your outdoor seating area will not only provide you with much needed shade in the summer months; it will also help you keep in the heat when the temperatures start to drop.  A cover such as a pergola or a large and sturdy umbrella will go a long way in keeping you comfortable while outdoors this fall.

Heat Up the Night

Apart from having comfortable outdoor furniture, nothing will tempt you to embrace the cooler evenings and encourage you to venture outdoors than a fire feature.  Fire pits are one of the most popular fire features as they are versatile and can be custom built to suit the atmosphere of your outdoor living area.  Other popular fire features include:

  • Fireplaces

  • Fire bowls

  • Fire lanterns

  • Fire cauldrons

Consider a Kitchen

If you are planning on doing a lot of outdoor entertaining this fall, consider going beyond the barbeque and having an outdoor kitchen built.  This not only encourages guests to stay outside and enjoy your beautiful backyard, but it expands your living space.

Pool Design Ideas for the Late Summer and Fall

Pool owners often forgo renovating and remodeling their poolscape during summer for one simple reason – they want to be able to use their pool.  This is why many pool owners choose to redesign their pool in late summer and fall.

If you're hoping to change up your backyard oasis but aren't sure what to do, here are some ideas to get you started.

Add a Water Feature

The late summer and fall months is when you will be able to find pool equipment and accessories at near rock bottom pricing.  This makes it the perfect time to incorporate a water feature such as arching jets, bubblers, waterfalls and scuppers you have always dreamed of to your pool.

Another benefit to adding these at this time of year? Business will be slowing for many pool renovation and remodeling companies.  This means that they will be keeping their prices lower in order to remain competitive with other pool design companies.

Get the Spa You Always Wanted

It may be a bit too chilly to take a dip in the pool, but it is never too chilly to enjoy a relaxing soak in a spa.  If you have been dreaming of adding a spa to your poolscape, late summer and fall is the perfect time to do it. Spas are able to be enjoyed year round, and are especially enjoyable soaking in the warm water with the crisp air all around.

Create a Recessed Lounge

One of the hottest trends is having a recessed lounge area right in your pool.  This unique and ultra chic pool feature allows everyone to be in the pool together – even those who don't want to get wet.
For those who are looking for in-pool seating that does not take up nearly as much space, consider sunken loungers on a baja shelf or installing pool bar stools near the outdoor kitchen or barbeque area.

Choosing the Right Pool Safety Cover

Swimming Pool Covers NW Arkansas, Oklahoma & Mississippi

Safety is, and should be, your number one concern when you own a pool and have children. And the most important thing you can do as a pool owner is properly outfit your pool with the right kind of safety cover. There are a variety of options on the market that fit different types of pool and your different needs.

Automatic Pool Covers

Automatic pool covers are the easiest to operate as they go off and on with the simple push of a button. This solid cover is usually best for rectangular or square-shaped pool and is built into the pool system so it remains hidden when not in use. This type of cover is rarely used for kidney-shaped, oval or circular pools. It's solid nature will keep out debris.

Pool Safety Net

A pool safety net is strictly used to keep out children and not beneficial in keeping out any type of debris. This type of cover is anchored to the sides of the pool and does require two people to apply.

Mesh Pool Covers

Mesh pool covers are most often used on pools that are closed for the winter because they allow weather like rain and snow to drain into the pool rather than collect on top of the cover. This is also beneficial for safety because this type of cover won't allow water to pool on top of the cover causing a puddle that could pose a safety hazard.

Solar Pool Covers

Lastly, solar covers are the least expensive and look like a giant sheet of bubble wrap. This type of cover usually requires two people to operate and does a good job keeping the heat in and the debris out. A major concern with this type of cover is that it does have a history of causing entrapment and drownings.
